Bio

Watercolor is a medium based in contrast. Everything that appears on the paper does so only in relation to something else. This sentiment echoes the world that surrounds us and allows me to take much of my inspiration from nature. As a self-taught artist, I have loved exploring the connections that arise within contrast.

While the colors individually seem crisp and clean, when you follow them closely it's hard to decipher where one ends and another begins. As a career nurse anesthetist, my job is rooted in controlled decision making. This contrasts my time behind the easel, where success comes from allowing nature to take its course. In watercolor, what you choose not to do is just as important as what you choose to do. The whiteness of the paper is just as important as the color that dries upon it.

This serendipitous nature of watercolor is what draws me to it. When you can channel the energy, things happen on the paper that you couldn’t have planned, and you begin to feel as though the paper has a plan of its own.

Nature, our lives, our art - although these may seem different, you really can’t tell where one ends and the other begins. Which parts am I doing? Which parts are arising naturally? I invite you to explore this, and more through my artwork.

" I dream my paintingand paint my dream."-Vincent Van Gogh
